Narrazioni dell’identità nella cultura siciliana

Valentina Pedroni

Abstract

Narratives of identity in sicilian culture

The work studies the ways in which the Sicilian produce representations of man that can hold its head high in front of family. Friends and authorities. Values that from the background Sicilian identity, such as honour, respect, family, generated in a context of life constitute the common values shared by the majority, but at the same time, can be a useful meaning to the substrate mafia subculture to create wide acceptance of a criminal phe-nomenon. It seems that the man of honour and the mafia organization share the same principles of the common man, and built, in parallel, a corresponding scale-values, with value “negative”. In this sense, the mafia subculture finds fertile ground in the Sicilian culture since it shares the ethical attitudes, moral and behavioural exploit to create legitimacy for their.
