Abstract

Politics tells about itself: Narrative construction of carriers in local administrations. A qualitative survey in Sardinia

This article summarizes the results of a study on tracing career paths. The objective is the necessity to describe such paths according to the personal experience of the people who took part in this study, without restricting such descriptions to theoretical models. We made 15 interviews with politicians from local Sardinian administrations. Such interviews have been analysed with ATLAS.ti software, specifically created to analyse qualitative information based on a Grounded Theory approach. The main results, divided also according to the political orientation – left, right, centre – prove that it is possible to describe a general model of a career path, which can apply to all people interviewed. Such model is mainly about the choice of a career in politics and the factors that precede and follow such choice. The article also analyses the differences within the area one belongs to.
