La mediazione inter-culturale tra vecchie e nuove convivenze urbane

Gualtiero Harrison

Abstract

The inter-cultural mediation between old and new urban cohabitation

In this focus the proposed reflection resumes the essential lines of the engagement, regarding human migrations that men have always promoted all over the earth, assumed by anthropology during the times. These and some others remarks lead us to look at the final brief points of these migratory flows: urban realities in all the cities and, overall, in the European ones in the last few years. The reading key of all the urban cohabitations, in this work, is subtended to consider the merits of the research on human rights from the Sixties till nowadays. However it seems that the hoped and peaceful cohabitation between the various cultures, who compete for the urban space of a public square or for the most basic right to inhabit a house, is not a need or a wish satisfied by a pleasent sharing of the most who make a demand on it, but it happens, instead, within a relational context rather conflictual. As a matter of fact it could be asserted, observing the daily life of a city context, that, more than the agreement theorists, the conflict theorist had won it. The author with these reasonings invites us to reread our cities without forgetting that in every culture, and in every time, the human tendency of belittling or denigrating the other has always been present until the point that still today we believe that the Africans who reach the civil and technological Europe all came from villages that haven’t seen yet electrical lighting, forgetting that the greater part of them has been born in megalopolis and, perhaps, have seen less exotic animals than a mean European of North Europe. As all this can happen is described and analyzed in this focus with the clearness and the mastery of a studious that by now draft these topics from several decades.
