Immigrazioni, conflitti sociali e violenza

Paolo Palmeri

Abstract

Immigration, social conflicts and violence

This paper discuss how intercultural conflicts are the occasion to underline that the idea of a universal republic composed by universal people is non more realistic. The idea of the author is that big social explicative theories, that is the holistic ideas used to define all sectors of our practical and political knowledge, are nowadays disappearing giving place instead to a number of peculiar socio-cultural conflicts. Concepts such as ethnicity, identity, ideology, nation or State are now more and more used according to new meanings. The old rigid opposition between “East” and “West” contributed to reinforce an ethnocentric perspective. Last Century po-licy could also be considered as supporting the idea that everybody must have a po-sition: to be with the West block or to be with the East, to belong to Washington or to Moscow. At the same time it appears clear that social theories, the ones that were supposed to ensure the correctness of western ideology, have make a choice: stay with the western or with the eastern block. At present the polarity has gradually changed from East-West toward North – South. This give space to new political forms and new socio-cultural perspectives.
